Choir Director: Peggy Stern is a pianist, and composer, educated at Eastman School of Music (BM) and New England Conservatory (MM), who gravitated from strictly classical music towards improvisation and jazz, through renaissance music along the way. She joined Holy Trinity in October of 2010. She has had a lot of experience with church and choral music, through singing in and accompanying choirs, most notably The Riverside Choral Society in NYC, and The Eastman And NEC Choirs, performing with the Rochester Philharmonic and the Boston Symphonies, respectively. Peggy taught choral music 2 years in an innercity high school in New Jersey , and subsequently learned a great deal of gospel, and modern gospel music. Last year, she was the organist/choir director at St James Episcopal Church in Hyde Park , NY (FDR's church!); in addition, she has formed and led several jazz choirs over the years, for youth and adults, sometimes combined for concerts. She is well-known as a composer and arranger, with several tunes published in the Sher Real Book (of jazz). She has recorded 11 CDs to date. Peggy has toured and taught in many places around the world; her favorites are Alaska , and Italy! She is currently the Artistic Director of the not-for-profit Ritenuto Foundation, a 501c3 music production and education organization. In addition she created (and is the artistic director of) the Wall Street Jazz Festival, in Kingston NY - "where the traditions meet the progressives, and all the leaders are women", which just completed its seventh successful season. Peggy is not affiliated with any church, personally, but has gotten quite comfortable in the Episcopal community. You can reach her viaemail. |
